Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction in Bangladesh

Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction in Bangladesh

What Is Focused Shockwave Therapy

Focused shockwave therapy uses high-energy sound waves to treat erectile dysfunction without surgery, injections, or downtime.

The shockwaves are generated outside the body by a therapy device, then pass through the skin to reach the tissue underneath. That’s why the full clinical name is Extracorporeal Focused Shockwave Therapy, or ESWT for short.

Urologists have been using this approach to treat vascular erectile dysfunction since 2010. Compared to surgery, it carries virtually no risk and no real recovery time, which is the main reason it’s become a serious option for men who want results without going under the knife.

Why Blood Flow Is the Real Problem in Most ED Cases

ED shows up the same way for most men: difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex, even when they’re fully aroused. But the cause usually isn’t psychological. In the majority of cases, it comes down to one thing — not enough blood reaching the penis.

When blood flow through the penile tissue drops below a certain threshold, an erection simply isn’t physically possible, no matter how aroused a man is. This is called vascular erectile dysfunction, and it’s the form of ED that shockwave therapy is specifically designed to treat.

How Shockwave Therapy Works

During treatment, low-intensity focused shockwaves are applied to specific areas of the penis. This triggers two things at the tissue level:

  • New blood vessel formation in the penile tissue
  • Increased blood flow through existing vessels

Together, these rebuild the circulation needed to achieve and sustain an erection. It’s not a quick fix that wears off — it’s the body repairing its own blood supply.

The treatment itself is painless and administered by a specialised regenerative therapy practitioner over a course of 6 to 12 sessions. Many patients report noticeable improvement in their ability to achieve an erection within just a few weeks of starting.

Who Is Shockwave Therapy For?

Shockwave therapy isn’t usually the first thing a doctor reaches for — and that’s by design. It’s typically recommended for men who:

  • Haven’t responded well to oral medication like sildenafil or tadalafil
  • Want to avoid more invasive treatment options
  • Have ED with a clear vascular cause

If you’ve tried pills without success, or you’d simply rather not depend on medication before sex, this is worth discussing with a specialist.

What Does the Research Say?

The clinical data on ESWT for ED is genuinely encouraging. In a clinical trial of 30 men with erectile dysfunction in Australia, published in BJU International:

  • 60% of patients (18 of 30) showed a meaningful improvement in their IIEF-5 score — the standard clinical scale for erectile function — six weeks after treatment.
  • 50–60% of patients achieved spontaneous erections firm enough for sexual penetration.
  • Patients received low-intensity shockwaves to the penis twice a week for 6 weeks, with each session lasting 15 to 20 minutes.

These are real, peer-reviewed numbers — not marketing claims.

What Happens During a Session

A typical session follows three simple steps:

  1. Gel is applied to the base, shaft, and perineal area of the penis to allow the sound waves to transmit properly through the skin.
  2. A handheld probe is placed against the skin over these areas.
  3. The device generates shockwaves at the push of a button, targeting the treatment zones for 15 to 20 minutes total.

No anaesthesia. No needles. No incisions. Most men describe it as a mild tapping sensation, nothing more.

How Long Do the Results Last?

Shockwave therapy is built to promote tissue healing and regeneration, not just temporary symptom relief. Because of that, the benefits tend to outlast the treatment itself — many patients report improvement that holds for months, sometimes years, depending on their underlying condition and how their body responds.

This is the core difference between ESWT and medication: a pill works for a few hours and then stops. Shockwave therapy aims to rebuild function that stays.

Is It Safe?

For the large majority of men, yes — shockwave therapy doesn’t carry the side effect profile that medication or surgery does. There’s no drug interaction risk and no surgical recovery to manage.

That said, it isn’t appropriate for every situation. Your doctor will assess your specific case first, since certain existing tissue conditions can make shockwave therapy unsuitable. This is exactly why an in-person consultation and assessment comes before treatment starts — not after.

Li-Eswt Treatment

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment in which a device is used to transmit acoustic shockwaves through the skin to the affected area.

Note that this policy does not apply to:

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a common treatment for kidney stones that cannot be passed in the urine.
Exogenous bone healing systems are routinely introduced for non-union fractures in patients who meet the criteria set out in the policy.
